Audiometric Screening

IOH can provide Audiometric “Hearing” Tests in a clinic or onsite.

Please contact your local IOH branch to discuss.

The hearing of workers exposed to noise can be monitored through regular audiometric examinations using pure tone audiometry. Testing is an important part of a hearing conservation program to manage risks from noise exposure in a workplace and is included under NSW WHS Legislation. IOH testing procedures, equipment and test environments conform to AS/NZS 1269.4:2014 Occupational noise management Part 4: Auditory assessment.

IOH provide onsite testing with our mobile testing unit, which includes a sound isolating booth and provide a copy of the environmental report for your site that demonstrates compliance with the standard.

Chapter 4 Part 4.1 Clause 58 of the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 relates to Audiometric Testing. It states:

Hearing Screen

  1. This clause applies in relation to a worker who is frequently required by the person conducting the business or undertaking to use personal protective equipment to protect the worker from the risk of hearing loss associated with noise that exceeds the exposure standard for noise.
  2. The person conducting the business or undertaking who provides the personal protective equipment as a control measure must provide audiometric testing for the worker:
    1. within 3 months of the worker commencing the work, and
    2. in any event, at least every 2 years.

Any changes in a person’s hearing levels revealed by audiometric testing should be investigated as to their cause(s) and the need for corrective action.

Testing alone is not a preventive mechanism but it is an important part of managing risks from noise exposure in a workplace

IOH can also provide Noise Testing by experienced consultants, or assist you in developing a complete Noise Management Program.
